40th race season starts in Dubai sunshine

I would never have thought when I started racing back in 1982 that I would still get so much fun and enjoyment of tussling on track 40 years later.

To kick start my 40th consecutive season I was invited to take part in the final round of the Waleed Al Shemaise Sportsbike series, at the Dubai Autodrom riding a Stocksport Yamaha R6.

It was great to catch up with my UAE family again, all the riders are so enthusiastic. The youngsters give me a hard time on track, but I like that, as their riding style is so different, it makes me have to think more about my riding, and adapt my style to keep with them. It was my first time on a modern R6 and my first time on the International track layout.

It was a bit tricky, on account that there was an unexpected heatwave, racing in 40+C but even so, it was great to blow away the winter cobwebs. I’ll post up the full event video once I’ve finished editing it.
